SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Light the Night officially kicked off its 2014 campaign on Saturday, August 2nd at 12:00 p.m. hoping to raise more money than ever to cure Leukemia and Lymphoma cancers in the Savannah area.

Around 50 to 75 people gathered at the Pooler Fun Zone Amusement and Sports Park as plans for the Light the Night Walk were made in preparation for the finale happening October 17 at Forsyth Park.

"The Leukemia Lymphoma Society has helped us in many ways, from helping with travel expenses to gas cars; I mean, anything; they have helped. They have also helped to fund the research for the cure," said Michelle and Madison Jones, mother and daughter.

"It means a great deal, because we are wiping out cancer; we are ready to give a knock-out punch, and cure cancer once and for all. That's very exciting," said Mark Kolbush, Light the Night Chairman.

Last year the event raised 286,000 dollars. Light the Night 2014 Chairman Mark Colbush said, "We are wiping out cancer, we are wanting to give the knock out punch against cancer."
