Family remembers father killed in Bells Road car accident

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

For all of her life Schelnetta Gary's father Karl Conyers has been her rock. The two shared a deep bond, one of their common interest football and their beloved Dallas Cowboys.

"Our football Sundays are not going to be the same no more," Gary said.

The accident happened at the intersection of Castlewood and Bells Roads on Friday evening.

Police said that Conyers was attempting to make a right turn onto Bells Road when he was struck by another driver.

Conyers was loved by many in his community, a basketball and football coach to area youth his daughter says he touched so many lives.

His family will remember him for being their voice of reason.

"I could call my daddy at 5 in the morning, I could call him at 4, it didn't matter, he is there," Gary said.

Conyers lost his life just blocks away from his Lamberts Avenue home. His daughter says her father was always careful and she wishes he never left the house Friday evening.

"They say its your time, that they are in a better place he isn't in a better place his place is right here with us,' Gary said.

Police said that charges are pending against the injured driver. That person is still in the hospital with life threatening injuries.

Anyone who may have witnessed this crash are asked to contact police by calling Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
