ORANGEBURG, SC (AP/WIS) -

The owner of an Orangeburg car care business died after a punch to the face by a former employee, according to an incident report from the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's deputies arrived at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg shortly after 2:30 p.m.

According to the report, the responding deputy spoke with the owner of All In One Car Care, Vernon Thompson.

Thompson told the deputy that he had an argument with 37-year-old Terrance Davis about the suspect's pay at the business.

The report goes on to say that Thompson gave Davis an additional $60 and fired him from the business.

That's when, according to the report, Davis punched Thompson twice in the face. Thompson fell to the floor and he told the deputy he could barely see or hear anything.

At this point during the interview, the deputy said Thompson became unresponsive and emergency crews rushed him to Palmetto Health Richland.

Thompson later died from his injuries, which included a crushed left eye socket and blood on his brain.

Davis, meanwhile, was arrested by sheriff's deputies and charged with voluntary manslaughter.

"Davis has cooperated with investigators and willingly talked with officers when he learned of the victim's death," said Sheriff Leroy Ravenell. "Our investigation indicates Davis struck the victim twice in the head at a Whaley Street business."

Davis will appear before an Orangeburg Magistrate on Aug. 5 at 2:30 p.m.

Not for sale, at least right now.  A vote from Savannah City Council at the very end of the regular meeting on the 12th strikes down a bid on a portion of the fairground property scooped up by Savannah a little more than a year ago. We're asking why that bid was shot down, and talking to the would-be developer who says the city's decision was a shock. Savannah City Council determined that the bid from Aeroscope Studios on 15 acres of the fair ground site wasn't enough. Lo...
