Metro police seek driver involved in morning hit-and-run crash

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Police are looking for a suspect who hit a pedestrian and sped away.

It happened around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Police say a man walked out of a store on West Charlton Street and tried to cross MLK Jr. Blvd when he was hit by a car.

Metro police and EMS responded and the victim, who witnesses say was an older black male, was taken to the hospital. They say he was talking but they were not exactly sure the extent of his injuries.

"He looked like he was seriously hurt, yea, he was laying on the floor with his hands covering his face. I didn't see any blood so I imagine they hit him on the hip, so that's what happened," said Carol Chen, witness, owner of Thrifty Supply Center.

Police are now searching for the driver of that vehicle. Witnesses say it was an older black man driving a late-model grey Chrysler van.

If you have any information regarding the accident, please contact Savannah-Chatham Metro Police.
