LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - TARC once again will make it easier for some people to get to the Kentucky State Fair this year. Special service between downtown Louisville and the Kentucky Exposition Center will run all ten days of the fair, Aug. 14 to 24.

Buses headed to the fair will leave the TARC stop at Fifth and Market Streets every 60 to 70 minutes from 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. The last bus to leave the fairgrounds en route to downtown Louisville will depart at 11:58 p.m. daily. Passengers should look for buses displaying the destination sign reading "2 - State Fair."

The fairgrounds TARC stop will be located on Circle of Champions opposite Broadbent Arena. Complimentary trams will transport TARC passengers to and from this stop to various fair locations.

Additional TARC service near the fairgrounds will be available on Crittenden Drive (Route 2) and Preston Highway (Route 18). Buses on those routes do not enter the fairgrounds.

Regular TARC fares apply on all trips. A one-way adult fare is $1.75. Students ages 6 to 17 and seniors with a TARC ID can ride for 80 cents. Children 5 and under ride free.

TARC service does not include fair admission, which is collected before the bus enters the fairgrounds. Passengers should have money for their fair tickets ready prior to entering the fairgrounds. Fair admission is $10 for adults and $6 for children ages 3 to 12 and seniors. Children ages 2 and under get in free.

Memorial Day weekend is in full effect, which means that law enforcement is out in full force. The Department of Natural Resources is also stressing safety throughout the weekend.  Officers say that they'll be cracking down on the usual charges, such as those not wearing seatbelts, or drinking and driving.
