For students in Chatham County public schools, the buses start picking them up on Thursday morning for the first day of the new school year.
Bus drivers from First Student Bus Company has been out driving, practicing their routes, but Thursday is the real deal, and they have been getting that anxious, exciting feeling just like students on their first day.
Drivers said they will start the buses rolling at around 5 a.m., and they have about 300 buses that go to more than 50 schools. Drivers have been doing practice runs this week, and on Monday they held what's called a wet run, where drivers go to each bus stop, picking up the students at their designated bus time.
It's a good practice for the students and the bus drivers, especially since many schools are on new bus schedules.
"That allowed for us to see where there could have been areas that could be improved, so additional adjustments were made at that time, so we are working down to the minute, to the hour, to make sure that everything is in place for tomorrow," said SCCPSS Executive Director of Support Services Tammy Perkins.
