First look at new Tybee Police station

TYBEE ISLAND, GA (WTOC) -

The new Tybee Island Police Station is coming along right on budget.

The 14,000 square foot facility is night and day compared to their current offices.

The dispatch room is three times the size and dispatchers have their own restrooms. The new evidence locker is one of the only one used in this area besides the GBI.

"And as they come in they'll take their evidence and they'll put it one of the lockers," Chief Bob Bryson said. "This will be on his side, he'll take the evidence, so it's complete, secure.  Your chain of custody is about as clean as it can possibly get."

Bryson was most hands on with the holding cells that lead into the brand new courtroom with judge facilities and recording equipment for meetings.

All the money for the police station came from the Chatham County SPLOST dollars.
