PHILADELPHIA (KYW/CNN) – A man accused of killing his wife in Pennsylvania apparently took his own life in New York.
Two little boys, a 4-year old and a 5-year-old are now left with no parents after a wild morning of violence that spanned two states.
“Apparently, the older of the two is telling everyone ‘daddy killed mommy,’ so it's obviously traumatic,” Upper Darby, PA Police Department Superintendent Michael Chitwood said.
Police say around 3 a.m., 32-year-old Keith Belajonas murdered his wide, Christina Belajonas, in their apartment outside of Philadelphia.
He then fled with their two kids, launching an Amber Alert. Belajonas sped north 100 miles to a CVS on Staten Island, NY, where he held up his own brother who works there.
Belajonas allegedly robbed the store of cigarettes, beer and cash, but left the children, driving six miles to a residential neighborhood. He stopped on a dead end street where police caught up with him.
“The car whipped the corner, went to the dead end. Cops started blocking off the street, then I heard a gunshot,” witness Chris Baldassano said.
NYPD swarmed the SUV where Belajonas shot himself in the head. Police said the family had been struggling. Last week, Christina was fired from a nursing center and their home was in shambles.
“[There was] cat urine everywhere, I don’t know where the two little kids slept, I really don’t. The place was a really, really nasty place,” Chitwood said.
But it was a jealous rage that may have motivated Keith Belajonas. Police said this morning, he posted a chilling message on Facebook.
“Words similar to we had an argument, she was cheating on me, but I won,” Chitwood said.
