Jesup business owners start to see answers after fire

JESUP, GA (WTOC) -

Business owners who lost everything in the fire in downtown Jesup got some answers to start their recovery.

The meeting on Thursday marks the first time these owners have been together since many of them stood in the street Monday night to watch the fire. Thursday gave them a reminder that they aren't alone.

Vanessa Jordan came on behalf of New Miracle Deliverance Center to see what the congregation can do to rebuild.

"We lost everything," she said. "We lost amps. We lost drums. We lost keyboards. All our tables and chairs are gone, too."

People from several state and federal agencies came to explain what they can do. They answered questions one on one about possible low interest loans, disaster funds and unemployment for workers. Downtown development leaders tried to match up business owners with other landlords who have vacant space.

"These business owners didn't know where to turn to ask questions, so we put them together," said City Manager Mike Deal.

Even while the shock hasn't worn off, the owners at least know there are resources to help them get back on their feet.
