A man and woman were taken into custody early today after a routine traffic stop turned violent. Just after 1am, a woman driving a Chevrolet Blazer was pulled over in Chatham County, but refused to get out of the vehicle. She sped away when an officer reached inside the SUV.
Other officers joined in as the driver headed into Savannah on Highway 17. The woman finally pulled over on West Victory Drive and was arrested without incident. But a passenger in the vehicle refused to cooperate with officers and began fighting them when they began questioning him. It took about seven officers to get him under control
The woman is charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer and fleeing. The man is charged with two counts of obstruction.
