Battery Creek swimming advisory lifted

BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) -

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control has lifted its swimming advisory for portions of Battery Creek after Beaufort-Jasper Water and Sewer Authority reported a sewer leak on Monday, August 4th.

5,000 gallons of sewage leaked causing all of Battery Creek and its tributaries from Highway 21 to the Parris Island Bridge to be put under a swimming advisory.

The BJWSA has temporarily fixed the leak and is working with a specialty contractor for the permanent repair.

Water quality tests indicate that there were no adverse environmental or public health impacts in the potentially affected areas.
