Kevin Wallace was arrested late on Friday night after turning himself in to police in reference to a wreck that took the life of a Tennessee woman, Melanie Riley on August 7th around 3:30 a.m.
The accident was a single car wreck involving a 1989 Ford Crown Victoria that collided with two palm trees near the Wilmington Island Club.
Investigators believe the accident occurred when Kevin Wallace, age 25, of Savannah was driving around a curve at a high rate of speed and struck the two palm trees.
The body of 40 year old Melanie Riley of Clarksville, Tennessee was found in the rear passenger seat. Another passenger, Travis Israel, age 40, of Wilmington Island was transported to Memorial University Medical Center and later released.
Kevin Wallace and his third passenger, Charles Riley, age 42, of Savannah, each left the scene before the police arrived.
Wallace has been charged with homicide by vehicle, leaving an accident, and failure to give aid.
Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department's Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is continuing to investigate the crash.
