Evans County celebrates Centennial

Posted: Updated:
EVANS CO., GA (WTOC) -

Hundreds of people came out to mark a milestone in Evans County on Sunday.

The community celebrated its Centennial. Georgia lawmakers made Evans County from parts of Bulloch and Tattnall counties 100 years ago. The program looked back at the history and changes in the small county, but also paid tribute to the things that have stayed the same.

"We have held onto our small town charm. You can still call up the mayor or the sheriff and know them by their first name. If you need something, just call and the community will come help," said Judge Darin McCoy, Centennial Committee.

Of course, no birthday is complete without cake. Evans County will wrap up their celebration with a parade next Saturday morning. In addition, the post office will sell commemorative stamps for the next month.
