SCPS holds longtime tradition on first day back

Tuesday was the first day of school for students at Savannah Christian Preparatory School, but they didn't just throw on their backpacks and head to class, their families sent them off in style.

It's a long-held tradition at the school for families to line up and cheer on the seniors as they drive in.

Dozens gathered at times getting a little choked up. There were all kinds of creative posters, everyone proud to congratulate the class of 2015 for making it this far.

"Just emotional today. I never thought this day would arrive," said Kelley Cale, mom.

"I just, I can't believe that it's the beginning of them going, this has come by so fast, I can't believe it," says Pam Gaudry, mom.

"My brother, I'm really excited for him because he is now a senior and it's his big year," said Ryle Mertz about his big brother.

"It's good being appreciated like this, like it's awesome," Senior Savanna Gallup said.

Proud father Jay Paskauskas said, "This will go down in the history books as one of the most memorable days in his life so thank you, thank you very much."

This year there are about 1,200 students at Savannah Christian Preparatory, from Pre-K through 12th grade, and there are several expansion projects in the works for the school.
