VCU Police to combat noise violations with surveillance van

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

VCU Police just revved up a new van aimed at combating noise.

Their one-of-a-kind, noise suppression van has state-of-the-art audio and video equipment. The van takes readings of loud noise and surveillance footage of where that commotion is coming from.

VCU Police responded to 186 loud party complaints last year. This van can target homes or areas that get repeated complaints.

"This is a new idea. I'm not aware of any similar project like this in the United States," said VCU Police Chief John Venuti.

Last year, VCU Police assisted in 57 evictions because of noise. 43 of those were VCU students.
