Students moving in to Georgia Southern University

STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) -

How tough is it for moms and dads to bring a son or daughter to college and leave them there? And how tough is it for a university to give that personal welcome when a student is one of 22,000?

The 3,000 students who'll live on Geaorgia Southern's campus arrived to get keys and see what the year holds. For parents of these Eagles, there are plenty of butterflies.

"When you've had a child for 18 or 19 years and you bring them here and leave them, it's an emotional time," GSU dad Stacy Wilkerson said.

Hundreds of upperclassmen stood by to make it easier. Volunteers helped unload each student and take everything to their new home and no doubt answer a few questions from the student or their parents.

"This is a great day. You can't get more excited about Georgia Southern and when the new freshman come on campus, meet their families and help them move in. Just a lot of fun," GSU President Dr. Brooks Keel said.

He said the fun helps students make the adjustment to the harder parts of college life.

The students will have plenty to do over the weekend and Monday, when classes start. As for the parents who drop them off...well, they're on their own.
