Armed robbery leads to police chase, ends in multiple vehicle wreck

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

An armed robbery led to a high speed chase which ended in a four car crash and landed two suspects in jail.

The incident started around 7 p.m. when police received a report of an armed robbery at the Dollar General on Apache Avenue.

Police said the suspects had weapons but are unsure of what they took from the store. Police were on the lookout for a black SUV when one officer spotted the vehicle on Montgomery Cross Road and begain pursuing it.

The black SUV took off on Montgomery Cross Road and struck a car near Waters Avenue.

The SUV continued down Montgomery Cross Road and went under Truman Parkway, where it crashed into three more vehicles in front of the Walmart entrance.

The two suspects them got out of the vehicle and fled the scene on food. Luckily police captured both suspects. Over 20 police cars responded to the incident, as well as Southside Fire and the Major Accident Investigation Team.

"All we know about at this point is the two young men that were in the SUV," said SCMPD spokesman Julian Miller.

When asked if either of the suspects were injured during the incident, Miller replied, "Well, we are not quite sure. They both got out and ran pretty quickly, so I don't think they are too bad. But give it some time, those aches and pains will come."

Montgomery Cross Road east of the Truman was shut down for several hours but is now open to traffic.
