Brunswick daycare closed due to death of child

BRUNSWICK, GA (WTOC) -

The Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) has confirmed that it has closed down a Brunswick Daycare where a child was found dead on Tuesday.

Chief Communications Officer, Reg Griffin, says that the Generation Kids Preschool Nursery on Pinewood Street was closed after it was determined that there had been a child death that was not medically anticipated.

DECAL investigations also revealed that the daycare may have been in violation of certain rules that may have contributed to the death of the child.

In the daycare's latest evaluation on Feb. 24, officials found no safety violations, but did have several other areas where the operators failed to comply with state requirements.

Among them was a violation of rules to keep cribs free of all additional items, such as blankets, pillows, and toys, in the case of infant babies.

Incomplete training was also listed as an issue at the daycare.
