JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

A Hurley woman was arrested early Monday morning after officers said she shoplifted right in front of them. It happened at H&H Chevron on Hwy 63 in Wade around 1am Monday morning.

According to Sheriff Charles Britt, one of his deputies and a Mississippi Fish and Wildlife officer watched as Shelli Marie Holt shoved packs of pencils, t-shirts, and backpacks under her shirt. She then bought two packs of cigarettes and left the store.

The officers tried to stop Holt in the parking lot, but she ran to her vehicle and sped off. The officers jumped in their car and followed, finally catching up to her at the Abundant Grace Church on Highway 614 where she was arrested.

Holt is charged with shoplifting, driving with a suspended driver's license, no car tag, and no insurance. All four charges are misdemeanor offenses; She faces a $250 fine on each charge.

Since her arrest, Holt has posted a $4,000 bail and been released from the Jackson County Adult Detention Center.
