Neighbors still in shock after Statesboro murder

STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) -

Neighbors are still in shock from a murder in Statesboro over the weekend.

A teenager faces murder charged in the death of a working husband and father.

The deadly shooting of a husband and father at an apartment complex on Friday night has people in their neighborhood shocked, saddened and wanting something done.

The shooting happened in the Park Place Apartment complex off of Lanier Drive. The owner of a gas station across the street described the victim, Eric Reese, as a good man. They said he stopped in the store every work day, and on weekends, too.

"Over the weekend, he would bring his kids in and buy them candy and chips and sodas and stuff like that," said Kamal Dreid. "Everybody knows him. Super nice guy."

Dreid said Reese had been looking for his daughter just before he was shot and was going to a neighborhood party to look for her. By Saturday morning, police had arrested 17-year-old Lester Parrish for Reese's murder.

"The saddest part of this is you don't think it will happen to a nice guy," Dreid said. "He was just minding his own business; he was working and raising his kids. We never heard a peep from him."

Anyone with information on this case should contact authorities.
