TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents are shutting down a smuggling tunnel located near Nogales, Arizona in early August.

Agents seized about 235 pounds of marijuana from the tunnel, west of the Deconcini Port of Entry, flooded with water and equipped with electrical wiring and ventilation pipes. It extends about 40 feet into the United States, according to the border patrol.

On Aug. 13, agents arrested one person trying to smuggle approximately $117,000 worth of marijuana through the tunnel. Authorities are still monitoring the area to arrest anyone else involved.

The public can anonymously report suspicious activity to the border patrol by calling (877) 872-7435, toll free.
