Woman speaks after Jasper County home fire

WTOC spoke to the woman from Jasper County whose house went up in flames last Wednesday.

Fire crews spent hours trying to get the fire out, but they weren't able to save the house. Fire officials said the cause of the fire was electrical.

Almeta Johnson lived in the house for eight years, but now there is nothing left of it.

The one glimmer of hope was when Johnson found her cat. She thought she lost him in the fire, along with everything else.

"My house...everything I own...all my belongs are gone," she said.

Johnson said she comes back every day and she's still in shock.

She lived here by herself with her dog and cats. Her husband passed away five years, and she didn't have insurance. Now she's homeless.

"I'm on my own...going from place to place. Last night I ended up in a flea bed to tell you the truth," Johnson said.

The Red Cross put Johnson up for three days and her church was able to do it for two more. Now she has nowhere to go, and she's asking anyone for help.

Johnson said anyone who is wishing to help her can call her at 843-258-2202.
