Summer heat causing problems for people in Savannah

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Have you dumped a bucket of water on your head yet? Maybe it's for a good cause, or maybe it's because it's so hot outside!

Ellis Square has wading fountains, and if you're going outside, you don't want to be too far away from a fountain to catch the misty breeze.

Some people were out at the fountain in Forsyth Park on Tuesday, and that was about the only place people could be found outside. The open fields under the sun were scarce where people normally enjoy the green space.

One lady said she walks her dog several times a day, usually for 30 minutes at a time. This week, she has cut that down to only 10 minutes. Korynne Waits said if it gets much hotter this week, she will have to keep her dog inside because the concrete is too hot for her paws.

"A couple of weekends it's been so bad that I just stay in the house and toss the tennis ball because she just can't stay out for more than a bathroom break," Waits said.

Officials at Memorial Health said they have not seen any heat related illnesses yet, but it's on their radar since it's supposed to get hotter.
