Mounted patrol keeping cool in the heat

The mounted patrol horses are staying off the street and staying cool in this Savannah heat.

They are hosed down several times a day and have fans going in their stalls.

While the horses are keeping cool the riders are patrolling the streets in cars.

Mounted patrol Commander Gene Lawhorn said if it's too hot outside for you, it's probably too hot outside for your animals so it's important keep them safe.

"Whenever the temperature reaches 97 or 100 heat index, whichever comes first we pull the horses in," Lawhorn said.

There are six mounted patrol units.
