New Savannah Youth Council sworn in

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Mayor Edna Jackson and Mayor Pro Tem Van Johnson had the honor of swearing in 36 new members of the 2014-2015 Savannah Youth Council members on Thursday.

The Youth Council is made up of eighth graders who will attend council meetings, learn about the role of government and also participate in community service and leadership development activities. This group is excited to get started.

"We have a lot to say," said Ziona Falabi, Savannah Youth Council President. "It gives us a chance to speak out and reach out to the government, the mayor, and let them know that we want to make a difference, too. We want something better for our city and our community."

Former Mayor Otis Johnson offered words of encouragement for the newly sworn in council.
