Deadline for public response to proposed troop reductions nears

HINESVILLE, GA (WTOC) -

There are only four days left for the public comment on proposed troop reductions at Fort Stewart and other bases around the country.

The U.S. Army announced the planned troop reductions last June, which includes cutting the 3rd Infantry Division's 2nd Brigade Combat Team at Fort Stewart by roughly 1,370 soldiers.

According to the plan, soldiers assigned will dip to roughly 19,700 over the next 12 to 18 months, and the Army says Fort Stewart could lose up to 16,000 soldiers overall.

The public comment period for the public to voice concern about the troop reductions ends Aug. 25. The Army Environmental Command at Fort Sam Houston, TX is responsible for receiving and compiling comments. To submit your comment, email usarmy.jbsa.aec.nepa@mail.mil or call the toll free number at 1.855.846.3940.
