Hot temperatures dangerous for pets

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The days of summer can be uncomfortable and even dangerous for people and pets.

Officials at the Humane Society for Greater Savannah said fod dogs in particular, it's important to keep plenty of fresh water around, limit exercise on hot days and never leave pets in the car.

"Basically the biggest thing you can do for your pet is to bring your pet inside - even sitting outside in the grass under a shaded tree is really too hot for them," Gwen Freeman with the Humane Society said.

When you do take them outside, early morning or evening walks are better. And, if your four-legged friend is looking for a way to cool off tonight, the Humane Society is holding their annual Pup Crawl.

The event will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., starting at the Rail Pub on West Congress Street.
