RINCON, GA (WTOC) -

Rincon resident Cori Hines pleaded guilty this morning in Chatham County Superior Court to criminal attempt at murder, two counts of aggravated assault and a count of false imprisonment in connection with a March 2013 shooting at the Oaks at Brandlewood Apartment Complex on Garrad Avenue in Savannah.

Hines was accused of grabbing his estranged girlfriend by the throat and threatening her with a firearm during an argument over her cell phone.

When the fight became physical, the girlfriend tried to leave the apartment, and was prevented from leaving by Hines. After the girlfriend was eventually able to escape, Hines shot her in buttock as she fled the apartment.

Hines told the police in a statement that the gun accidently discharged when he dropped it.

As part of his plea, Hines was sentenced to 25 years with ten to serve.
