Chatham County considering changes to tattoo rules, regulations

Posted: Updated:
SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

In an effort to keep up with new technologies in the tattoo and body piercing industry, the Chatham County Health Department is considering making some changes to rules and regulations of those industries on the local level.

The preliminary proposed changes include adding manufacturer's recommendations for approved pigments; requiring certain structural equipment on site such as bathrooms and hand sinks; updating requirements on autoclaving procedures and piercing techniques; and revamping enforcement practices.

The changes have been presented to local representatives of the tattoo and body piercing industries and feedback will be gathered from those representatives until Aug. 29.

After review of the industry comments a formal version of the updated rules and regulations will be offered for public comment.

Once the public comment period is complete the revisions will be presented to the Chatham County Board of Health for approval.
