ESCO warns public of deceptive business practices

Posted: Updated:
EFFINGHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

After receiving several reports from concerned citizens, The Effingham County Sheriff's Office is warning citizens of individuals that have been soliciting area residents offering to pave driveways.

The couple, traveling in a White Ford F-150 with South Carolina tags, was spotted in neighborhoods near Highway 30. They claim they work for Riley Brothers Asphalt and have been going door to door.

The two individuals were identified by deputies had extensive criminal histories and did not have a solicitation permit.

County ordinance requires anyone who is soliciting business have a permit from the Sheriff's Office. These permits which are free of charge ensure that these people have gone through background checks and are legitimate.

A report from one citizen indicated the asphalt workers from South Carolina used roofing tar instead of asphalt. We are urging residents to be cautious who they conduct business with and to contact ECSO if they see any suspicious activity.
