SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Downtown Precinct Detectives identified and arrested the suspect responsible for vandalizing Battlefield Park during the early morning hours of March 2.

Zackery Wilcox, 19, of Kansas, is charged with second degree criminal damage to property and interference with government property, both of which are felonies. Wilcox is a soldier at Fort Stewart.

In March, surveillance cameras captured footage of Wilcox in his navy blue Ford Mustang as he drove into Battlefield Park. The footage showed Wilcox spinning the car around in circles on the parade ground and monument section.

The stones on the monument sustained serious damage, and deep holes were left in the parade ground lawn. The event caused several thousand dollars in damages.
