ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
Doug Hanzel entered Thursday's final round of the Georgia Senior Amateur Championship with a three-shot lead.
At the end of it, the Savannah golfer fought off back spasms to hold on to the title.
Hanzel shot a 75 at Albany's Doublegate Country Club Thursday to win the 2014 title by two strokes, his second in three years.
"It's always nice to come out and just compete and be in contention and I hung on today," he says. "On the fourth hole, I kind of had a muscle spasm in my back and that kind of slowed me down out there. You just have to overcome some fear of the spasm, but I did ok."
He is also the defending U.S. Senior Amateur champ, and will aim for back-to-back titles next month in Newport Beach, CA.
