Darrell Hendrix sentenced to life plus 25 years in April 2013 murder

Darrell Hendrix appeared in Chatham County Superior Court on Wednesday and was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole plus 25 years in the April 2013 death of Rodrick Richardson.

A jury convicted Hendrix of three counts of felony murder, four counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, two counts of criminal attempt to commit a felony and one count of aggravated assault.

Police discovered Richardson in his Honda Accord after reporting to a crash near Hodge Elementary. Police initially thought it was a traffic accident, but officers found Richardson with a head wound. An autopsy later revealed that his death was caused by a single .38 caliber gunshot wound to the head.

Chief Judge Michael Karpf commented on Hendrix's extensive juvenile criminal history, including six separate criminal offenses that included carrying a weapon on school property at age 12 and simple battery on school personnel by age 16. Hendrix had also violated probation three separate times while serving juvenile sentences.
