Asked and Answered: Montgomery Cross Road McDonald's construction

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Ground has been broken, but where is the action? There are a lot of questions about the controversial McDonald's project on Montgomery Cross Road.

Charles and Katy Seymour of Sandfly drive on Montgomery Cross Road every day, and they asked why work has stopped on the McDonald's going in front of Walmart on Montgomery Cross Road? They were really moving along and haven't seen anybody working there for days.

WTOC went out to the site, and sure enough, the Seymours were right. Not much has changed since late July when the land was cleared.

The City of Savannah said other than using city water and sewer, it is not a city project, and the Metropolitan Planning Commission was unaware of any unexpected delays holding the project up. Last month, residents were not happy with the addition of the fast food giant.

There was backlash after a noise buffer of trees started coming down in July and the land was cleared for the golden arches.

Chatham County offered this answer: There is no stop work order from this department, and the work should be moving along as scheduled.

However, more than four weeks of little to no activity does not seem like it is all a green light. People inside the company said even though construction has stopped, the project is moving forward, but there has been no word on why it's possibly delayed. McDonald's said in a statement that construction is on schedule, but they are focused on opening their new Midway location first in October.
