25 new jobs added in Wayne County after plant expansion

WAYNE CO., GA (WTOC) - People in Wayne County celebrated on Monday afternoon after a current company brought more jobs to the community.

The expansion means 25 more jobs.

People in Wayne County said this is a prime example of the theory that it's as important to keep your current businesses growing as it is to recruit new ones.

EAM/Domtar will add 25 more jobs to the community with an expansion set to open in the spring. Leaders said they work with companies here to help them grow.

“It's very important,” said John Riddle with the Wayne County Industrial Dev. Authority. “In fact, a high percent of your new jobs come from existing industries, as high as 80 to 90 percent.”

The plant uses tree pulp to produce the absorbent material used in diapers and other personal care products. The expansion helps them generate one third more. Community leaders said adding more jobs here helps local stores and others.

“Domtar will add 25 jobs here, and all those paychecks roll over into the economy,” said Mike Deal with the City of Jesup.

Deal said this expansion couldn't come at a better time after a fire in August destroyed several downtown businesses and employers. He said when you rebuild that and add these, they'll be stronger than before.
