Park Property Heavily Damaged in Suspicious Fire

The Christmas spirit is filling the Coastal Empire, but in Pooler they're looking for a Grinch after a suspicious overnight fire. Shortly before midnight, a Pooler officer on patrol spotted flames coming from a building at the City of Pooler Recreation Center on South Rogers Street. By the time firefighters got to the scene, flames had already burned through the roof at the back of the building, which is equipped with bathrooms and used to store materials to maintain the park.

The blaze was brought under control quickly, but the building sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage.

Afterward, police found someone had spray-painted graffiti on some of the walls. Now they're looking into the possibility that the fire was deliberately set.

They could use your help. Anyone who may have information which could help lead police to the suspect or suspects who may have set this fire is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 234.2020.
