The Unity Political Action Group met the 5pm deadline today for turning in the petitions to recall two members of the Savannah-Chatham County Board of Education.
They needed 100 signatures for DeWayne Hamilton and board president Hugh Golson and they had over 125. The board of elections now has five days to verify the names.
The recall groups must then collect more signatures: 30 percent of the registered voters in the district the board member ran in. To do that, it's going to take a lot of work and a lot of volunteers.
"Yeah it's worth it," said Rev. Leonard Small of Unity Political Action Group. "I normally take two weeks vacation after the first of the year. I won't this year, it's worth it."
Petitions for board member Daniel Frazier are due on Thursday.
The group also took action today against the board's task force designed to keep Chatham County schools off probation. They filed an injunction today in Superior Court accusing the task force of illegally meeting in private.
