What should have been a routine traffic stop turned into a chase through the Low Country yesterday afternoon. It happened in Beaufort on Battery Creek Road when an officer tried to pull over 18-year-old Jahell Calahan for speeding.
Instead of stopping, Calahan sped up and tried to outrun police. He didn't get far. Police say Calahan tried to turn onto South Side Boulevard, but lost control and crashed.
He and two passengers, Douglas Major and Rashem Rivers, ran from the scene.
Within hours, police were able to catch all three and took them to jail. They are charged with fleeing the scene to evade arrest. All three men were wanted for various other warrants.
