After much controversy, the Beaufort County Board of Education has new leadership. At a retreat in Bluffton, South Carolina today, board members finally elected a chairman.
The 11-member board postponed the decision several times because of a five-to-five tie since board member Michael Rivers refused to vote. But today, another member changed his vote, and Dale Friedman is the new chairman.
"I changed my vote after a lot of deliberating," said David Chase. "We met three times now, and it's the dreams and aspirations of our children are at stake."
Board members also elected a vice chairman and secretary today.
