Mayor Jackson not agreeing with recommendations for police merger agreement

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Mayor Edna Jackson is now saying she does not agree with the recommendations for the police merger agreement.

In a letter sent to the Chatham County Commission, she said in part that she "will not recommend approval of the county's latest offer without additional changes." She "will not agree that city taxpayers should substantially increase their share of the police department costs," and that two departments would cost more.

As it stands now, if an agreement is not reached, a de-merger could happen in April of 2016.

The merger is on the Commission Agenda for Friday.
