429th Returns from Iraq

The 429th Battalion has been serving in Iraq since January 2004. The 429th Battalion has been serving in Iraq since January 2004.

While many of our Third Infantry Division troops are beginning to deploy for a second time to Iraq, some other soldiers, who also call the Coastal Empire home, are just coming back. Fifty-five soldiers from the Army Reserve's 429th Medical Evacuation Battalion Headquarters are expected back at Fort Stewart late Friday night.

The 429th Battalion is made up of four air companies and two ground companies. They used 60 BlackHawk helicopters and 64 ground ambulances to evacuate troops who were injured or killed on the battlefield. The battalion took part in more than three thousand air and ground missions over the last year. Nearly 900 additional soldiers who make up the remainder of the battalion have already re-deployed or will be re-deploying in the next few months.
