Fire at Lazaretto Creek boat ramp holds up bride going to her wedding

TYBEE ISLAND, GA (WTOC) - One woman was delayed but not deterred from going to her own wedding on Tybee Island after a large fire brought traffic to a halt on Highway 80 near the Lazaretto Creek Boat Ramp around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Both lanes of Highway 80 going East and West bound were shut down as Tybee Fire Department, Southside Fire Department, and Georgia Power officials worked to put out the fire caused by a sail boat that became caught on some power lines.

Miss Whitney Lowery soon to be Mrs. Laska was traveling East bound on Highway 80 towards Tybee Island with her maid of honor and brides maids when they saw the smoke.

After around an hour of waiting and coming up with multiple other options the group was able to make it across the Lazaretto Creek Bridge since the fire was contained.

A Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police Officer allowed the group to be one of the first to cross the bridge after the fire due to the urgency of their situation.

No one was injured during the fire. WTOC would like to extend a congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Laska as their adventures continue.
