Gas prices rising in South Carolina

BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) - Gasbuddy.com says the average gas price in South Carolina has risen 22 cents over the past month, and that number is expected to rise even more over the next two weeks.

According to a petroleum analyst at Gasbuddy, Wednesday saw a big price rally in gasoline markets. For Hilton Head and Bluffton, the price has climbed 29 cents from last month and local drivers are not too happy about the increase.

"It very much sucks, I don't like it and I don't think nobody else will like it either," said Beaufort resident Jacqueline Scott.

"All of this is out of a little paycheck, out of a small paycheck, and you're not making but $10 an hour, and considering that they don't want to take the minimum wage up, that's hurtful for people who are only making $7.25 an hour," said Beaufort resident Priscilla Willis.

But plans to lower the prices are not on the agenda just yet. South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley is proposing a lower income tax, but a higher gas tax to help fix state roads, meaning drivers are going to have more money coming out of their pocketbook.
