Speak Out Editorial- 3/5/15

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Here we go again.

Last year when St. Patrick's Day fell on a Monday, the State Legislature scurried to approve Sunday alcohol sales for bars at the very last minute. Now, please realize that alcohol sales are already very much a reality on Sunday in package stores, grocery stores and establishments that claim that more than half of their business is food.

So you can get the alcohol, the only question is where? Isn't that a little silly and harmful to local watering holes who are locked out of one of the busiest days of the year?

The 2014 legislation was specific to last year's parade, so it doesn't cover this year's event.

Now, we're not lawmakers on the editorial board, but doesn't it make sense to create a blanket law that allows sales of alcohol for all days within the festival?

What do you think?
