Savannah-Chatham police are searching for a killer after a man was gunned down on the city's east side. It happened last night about 8:30pm.

Police say a Savannah man was driving his car on East 37th Street and stopped at the intersection with Bee Road. Witnesses say that's when someone in another vehicle--possibly an SUV--opened fire and the driver of the car was hit by bullets.

Two passengers in the victim's car jumped out and ran, and the car rolled to a stop through a fence into a nearby yard and hit a parked car. The victim was found dead in the driver's seat by the time police and ambulance units reached him.

Detectives had the car towed to a secure location to gather evidence. The name of the victim has not yet been released. His body will be taken to the GBI crime lab for an autopsy while detectives look for his attacker.

Anyone with information about Savannah's latest homicide is urged to call CrimeStoppers at 234.2020.
