You know the ports are big business, and for a decade Jasper County on the South Carolina side of the Savannah River has tried to set up a port terminal.
The land is right across from the current Georgia Ports Authority. And it's turning into a heated legal battle between Jasper County and the South Carolina Ports Authority. Jasper just offered to buy the land for $8.5 million and filed a notice they will condemn the property. But South Carolina Ports Authority's suing to block the effort.
Jasper's going full speed ahead though. "At this point, the council wants to continue what's been outlined by our administrator and lawyers, and we'll move forward until such time the Supreme Count tells us we're not within our rights," said Dr. George Hood of the county council.
Hood says they haven't heard back from the Georgia Department of Transportation about the offer to buy the land. We'll let you know what happens next.
