Suspect Profile, Tip Line in Serial Rapist Case

The following was released this afternoon by investigators in the case:

Law enforcement agents in Beaufort County, Jasper County and the Savannah area, with the assistance of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, say their investigations into sexual assaults in each jurisdiction are linked.

The specific cases, which the investigations reveal connections, are the following:

August 2004: One case in Savannah area

September 2004: Two cases in the Savannah area
(Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police)

One case in Richmond Hill
(Richmond Hill Police Department)

December 7, 2004: One case at Hardeeville Wal-Mart
(Jasper County Sheriff's Office)

December 23, 2004: One case at Ashley Plantation apartments, greater Bluffton
(Beaufort County Sheriff's Office)

Each police agency is asking for the public assistance to help provide information to lead to the arrest of this suspect.

A criminal profiler from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has developed key behavioral traits of the suspect. This personality profile, along with the composite drawing (Georgia Bureau of Investigations sketch) and vehicle description, are listed below.

Investigators stress this suspect can be dangerous.

The following are descriptions and possible personality traits of the suspect:

* Black male, maybe in his 20s, short black hair, probably height 5'10' - 6'2", approximately 200 lbs.
* Often wears baseball cap
* Drives or has access to white or light colored 4-door sedan, similar to a Dodge Intrepid or Chrysler Concord; May have current excuses why he no longer drives it such as, "It's in the shop, it was repossessed, my friend won't let me use it anymore and so forth."
* Possibly single, maybe partially financially dependent on someone else
* If employed, he may have a job which is unskilled or requires little skill; possibly requires little contact with the public
* Possibly average to below-average intelligence; no more than a high school education
* May become defensive if asked to account for his time. May respond in answers such as, "None of your business, Just cruising around and so forth."
* Unsuccessful in relationships with women his own age; may say negative, bitter generalities about women such as "all women use men, all women are (something negative)."
* May not be viewed as a sexual offender but under right circumstances may become violent, not only to victims, but to friends and family members as well.
