Motel Employee Injured in Stabbing

A woman had to be rushed to the hospital early today after what police are calling a robbery attempt that turned violent. About 4am this morning, Savannah-Chatham police were called to the Holiday Inn Midtown at Abercorn near Eisenhower Drive. The first officers to arrive found the night clerk accompanied by her daughter near some rooms behind the motel.

Police say two suspects barged into the lobby early this morning, robbed the motel and then stabbed the night clerk on duty several times. Police identified her as 53-year-old Jean Solomon.

Police say Solomon's daughter found her lying in the parking lot behind the hotel with a knife still stuck in her back. She is in critical condition at the hospital.

No one else at the the hotel was hurt.

Police interviewed a few people, including some guests and Solomon's daughter. The hundred or so guests staying at the motel had no idea what had happened until they woke up this morning and saw police swarming the area.

Detectives were on the scene all morning.

WTOC is following this story and will have the latest starting tonight on THE News at 5.
