Corps of Engineers Won't Give Up Land for Jasper Port

When it comes to the proposed Jasper port terminal, the US Army Corps of Engineers says it doesn't matter who owns the land, because the corps owns the easement rights.

The corps has used the 1,800 acres to dispose of dredge materials from the Savannah harbor for more than 50 years, and at this point has no intentions of stopping.

Earlier this month, Jasper County filed a lawsuit to condemn the land to build a port. The South Carolina Ports Authority then filed a lawsuit claiming Jasper County doesn't have the authority to even develop a port.

We'll keep you posted on how this all ends up.
