Community group meets in wake of shooting incident

. -  SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Police say Cedrico Wallace was the man shot multiple times around 4 p.m. Wednesday as he and two other men were walking along Cabell Street on Savannah's east side.

Wallace was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

As the ambulance left the scene, detectives and other officers searched the area for information and evidence.

"He was shot. He was shot twice by a suspect who emerged from the brush," said Eunicia Baker, SCMPD Spokesperson.

Neighbors were clearly jarred by the scene unfolding outside their doors.

"It's the exact same thing that happened a month and a half ago. A shooting, right here, multiple bullet casings around, and it's just...I really think the city's gotten out of control," commented Scott West, who lives near the shooting scene

This kind of activity is exactly why the Eastside Alliance was formed - a group of hundreds who are part of a social media-born neighborhood watch.

"I do notice a jump in the numbers everytime we have a crime in the area, especially when we have the random gunfire, which has been quite often lately," said Nikki Carangelo, an Eastside Alliance member at Wednesday night's meeting.

The meeting was an opportunity for the members to meet in person, and talk about their concerns.
The group hopes their unity will get results, solutions for crime prevention, and support from city leaders.
Nikki Carangelo will represent the Eastside Alliance at Thursday's city council meeting.

Carangelo said, "I consider our page to be a wonderful group of intellectual individuals, where everyone has a different perspective and ideas. And I just want to share that."

Two city council members were on scene with police as well, along with Police Chief Jack Lumpkin.

Police tell us a black man was seen running from the scene with a handgun and getting in to a black Honda Accord nearby that sped away, and they are still searching for that suspect.
